04 Kobald/Corsciana: Impromptu Caber Toss

The true origins of the title of this collaborative rock-and-roll gem are lost in the sands of time, though speculation has it that an opportune mixture of alcohol, Casey Philbin's prodigious imagination, and ancient Scottish tradition begat The Impromptu Caber Toss one night in turn-of-the-millenium Oakland...

The story of Kobald and Corsciana's meeting is slightly less shadowy. Corsciana bassman Keith Kurczewski made first contact over the internet, just as Kobald emerged out of the Brian and Chris live group. Each band pledged to record an "Impromptu Caber Toss", destined for a 7-inch pressed in honor of Casey's mythic conception. Recording sessions yielded even greater results, and a split Corsciana/Kobald EP. was born. Each band's tracks feature chiming dual-guitar melodies, powerful rhythm-section bombast, and even the occasional electronic embellishment; the bands' approaches are different enough to keep you guessing, while similar enough to keep the roller coaster on track.
